INTRODUCTION TO MANTRAS:
Mantras are special sounds, which generates specific effects. These could be mental, emotional, physical and even spiritual effects. It is important to understand the effect of sounds in our life if we really want to understand this idea.
Did you ever stop for a moment to think about how words affect you? Usually people are not aware of the power of words. Nevertheless, they affect us all the time and since we were born. The mechanical lives we are living do not let us think or reflect on basic things of life.
Let us see how sounds (words, music, etc.) affect us
THE EFFECT OF SOUNDS: WORDS AND MUSIC.
The opposite effect could have been changed the kid’s life. If just that kid had more comprehensive teachers and/or parents he/she might have had a totally different life. What if after watching the painting they could have told something like <<It is not bad, but you can improve, I bet you can do better later>>. Words, again, could cause a total different effect.
Moreover, music was so important for ancient civilizations. Dance and songs were not just to entertain, but a way to change the mood of people, especially kings. We can find a god or a goddess of music all around the planet. Apollo, Orpheus, the Muses, Xipetotec (Aztec God), etc. are among the deities related to music.
Ancient civilizations knew about the importance of music and it is about the effects of it. In some legends or myths monsters are put to sleep by someone singing or playing an instrument. Orpheus with his lira was able to calm the beasts of the forest.
Our modern point of view is fixed on entertainment rather than in our mental, emotional, physical and even spiritual transformation.
There are several studies related to music and the power of sound.
Dorothy Retallack, for example, discovered scientifically that plants need music as they need water, sunlight, and carbon dioxide. What did she do? She got three pants: One <<listening>> music for several hours a day, the other one <<listening>> music for a short time and the last one without music. The first one grew the fastest. Moreover, she experimented with different types of music and she found that relaxing music was the best for the plants. Dorothy wrote a book in 1973explaining these experiments. The books name is: THE SOUND OF MUSIC AND PLANTS.
Another great discover is that sound affects the molecules of water. This discovery was made by Masaru Emoto. He experimented for several years. He noticed that positive words were able to change the molecules of water into nice shapes while negative words changed the molecules into no so nice shapes. Another experiment was to check if the molecules of water change after the water is blessed and it did so. He wrote several books explaining his experiments.
Masaru Emoto is a Japanese energy scholar, author and entrepreneur, best known for his claims that human consciousness has an effect on the molecular structure of water. Emoto's hypothesis has evolved over the years of his research.
The matter here is that we are 70% water. Therefore, we are susceptible to sounds. Now we can understand why music can change our mood or why words affect us. Now we can see why words were able to traumatize kids that now are adults; they now are not able to do all they can because words told them many times: You cannot do it. But others were told: You can! Now they are able to fight for what they want.
Being sound so important and powerful then we must be smart enough to use that power. The power of sound is within Mantras.
THE POWER OF MANTRAS:
Everything in the universe is vibration and everything is vibrating. We are vibrating too and everything within us is vibrating. What we really are is not understood by people. Usually we think we are the body, but actually we have a body and it is great. This amazing body can revitalize with the proper techniques. This is possible when we change our vibration.
Usually a person’s vibration is low; this is because of several reasons: The way we live, what we eat, out thoughts and emotions, etc.
When we relax our body our vibration changes. We had created, through relaxation, a change from stress to calmness. Nevertheless, we can increase that relaxation more and more until we do not even feel the body at all. The first time this happened to me I was surprised and I open my eyes because I did not know if I was stand up or seat down or lay down. Weird? Not really. The sensation was really nice, but I just wanted to know the posture of my body. Yes, I was seat down in half lotus (That is the way I usually practice meditation).
The more you concentrate on the practice the more you relax. Mantras help a lot to achieve relaxation more and more. That is a great for the health of the body. Remember: Stress is a killer and when you relax you fight stress. This simple action makes the inner systems (nervous, immune, circulatory, etc.) to work better.
If we use mantras for specific chakras then we affect the area and organs in that area. The seven chakras are related to the seven endocrine glands. So, when we do some specific mantras we work on specific areas or organs.
Example: The mantra OM works with the thymus gland and the heart. That way we vitalize the thymus and the heart. Working on the Thymus improves our immune system and I bet you get how benefit is to have a healthier heart, right?
Please, do not ever think to avoid your doctor because you work on chakras. We all need to visit the doctor and have our regular checks. Working with mantras and chakras is to prevent, but never to cure. This is important to understand because some people out of fanaticism want to avoid the doctors.
